ABCs of Filtration

Here’s a quick guide to some of the abbreviations commonly used in the filter industry:

  • CTC-Cap to Cap. Measurement of a filter element’s length.
  • DOE-Double Open End. Used to describe style of filter element.
  • EDM-Electrical Discharge Machines.
  • GPM-Gallons Per Minute
  • ID-Inner Diameter.
  • OAL-Overall Length. Measurement of filter element length plus gasket (if any).
  • OD-Outer Diameter.
  • OEM-Original Equipment Manufacturer
  • PSA-Pressure Sensitive Adhesive. Often used for gaskets.
  • PSI-Pounds per Square Inch.
  • PSID-Pounds per Square Inch Differential.
  • RV-Relief Valve. Mechanism that assures system fluid flow when a pre-selected differential pressure across the filter element is exceeded.
  • SOE-Single Open End. Used to describe style of filter element.
  • SOL-Need Sample!
