The ABCs of Filtration

Here’s a quick guide to some of the abbreviations commonly used in the filter industry:
- CTC-Cap to Cap. Measurement of a filter element’s length.
- DOE-Double Open End. Used to describe style of filter element.
- EDM-Electrical Discharge Machines.
- GPM-Gallons Per Minute
- ID-Inner Diameter.
- OAL-Overall Length. Measurement of filter element length plus gasket (if any).
- OD-Outer Diameter.
- OEM-Original Equipment Manufacturer
- PSA-Pressure Sensitive Adhesive. Often used for gaskets.
- PSI-Pounds per Square Inch.
- PSID-Pounds per Square Inch Differential.
- RV-Relief Valve. Mechanism that assures system fluid flow when a pre-selected differential pressure across the filter element is exceeded.
- SOE-Single Open End. Used to describe style of filter element.
